I'm behind with my posting again! Too much going on, and the days go by so fast!
Here are #75-79/100 from the last of last week and the weekend...
I did it! I completed the 100 day project of sketching every day for 100 days! These are the last four sketches. The goats are the last one on the last day, the 23rd of April. I have actually done 136 sketches during January 1, 2025 through April 23, 2025, because some days I sketched 2-3.
Because I missed twelve days during the actual 100 day period, I added twelve days to the hundred days to make up for it, plus I thought March only had thirty days, but it has thirty-one. So I actually went over one day, making it 101 days that I sketched out of 113.
Sketched 101/113 days and did 136 sketches from Jan 1-April 23 (for my benefit, not yours! :D)
So proud of me! 😊
I ended the challenge, but not the sketching. Doesn't feel right if I don't do one at some point during the day! The discipline and practice have helped me so much! Hopefully, it will show in future artwork...
I also want to do some work in my art journals and do some painting, which I haven't done in months. Maybe I will make those my next challenges!
I am still doing the 100 days of stitch meditations with Liz Kettle challenge and keeping up, so far. #62 for today is pinned and ready to stitch! Only 38 to go!
The end of one challenge, working on another over half done, and looking forward to the next challenge! Keeps life interesting, plus it's so good for my soul (and my nerves)!
I missed a day again this week, but I'm making it up! A couple of days I sketched two!
Day 18 also- There were actually four sisters in the vintage family photo. Three of them are my great-aunts and one is my grandmother on my dad's side. However, I failed to leave enough room for the fourth one, again. Grrrrr! So I sketched the two on the left on the 18th (making 3 sketches that day including the one above).
Day 19-The third one, my granny, I sketched the next day. The fourth one got left off this sketch, but that's ok. She's in both the ones above! This photo was made later in their lives than the others. Zig Writer and Posca markers
Their names were Nancy, Virgie (Jeno), Laura Lue (my Granny), and Annie Mae. I was lucky to grow up around my Granny and Annie Mae, and I kind of knew Nancy from when she came home once a year to visit family. I don't remember ever seeing Jeno, but from what I've heard about her she was a character, and I would have loved her. Granny talked about her often. I adored my granny!
I lack three days of making up the ones I missed since January 1, but I'm going to keep sketching. Just not going to have a specific goal in mind, and I'm going to try to paint every day for a while. I don't think I'll try for a hundred days though. Maybe a month or two?
I also want to finish my mini junk journal, which has been staring at me forlornly ever since I started the stitching and sketching challenges.
Anyway, that's it for this week. I've done one for today, but it hasn't been scanned yet. It's inspired by Helen Wells sketchbooks of intuitive art. Very fun! Next post!
Happy Easter!
Well, my unofficial 100 day sketching project, which I started January 1, was actually up April 10, but since I missed eleven days of doing a sketch during that time, I am now on make-up day 3/11. I only lack eight more days to fulfill the 100 days, but I'm not going to stop the habit if I can help it. This has been an invaluable practice for me. I've learned a lot and gained a lot, and I now want to do a 100 day painting challenge. Maybe when I've completed the 100 day stitch meditation challenge?
Okay, I missed days 5, 6, and 10 so far this month, and I've posted days 1-4, so here are the rest from this past week in my sketchbook/journal. I know, I won't win the neatest person award, but I could go by these sketches/notes and paint a painting! 😁
Day 13 (3/11 missed)-from a vintage photo that a cousin shared of my grandmother's, and her mother's, two sisters on a Facebook historical group. I didn't try for a real likeness, but this one is from the photo of my great-aunt Annie Mae, who I grew up around, and I love how it turned out! My cousin recognized it and loved it right off! Zig Writer marker
The reason half the page is blank is because she's waiting on her sister, which I plan on attempting to sketch today. I just hope it turns out as well as this one did! We'll see! Either way, it's great practice and great fun!
I've been watching some of the art programs on Prime video in between a busy week and enjoyed them very much. Hubby was sick on Sunday and Monday (his 78th BD). We had company also on Sunday and we postponed his BD celebration until later. Didn't do much on Tuesday, but Wednesday he mowed ours and my mom's yards and garden spot and it took me all evening, but I vacuumed, swiffered, and mopped what I could get to of the floors, which needed it badly. I was totally exhausted and it didn't stay clean an hour!
Thursday I got my monthly b-12 shot in town, then we drove about twenty-five miles to the next town to pick up a prescription, which they said would be there the next day (grrrr!), so we bought groceries (hubby goes to a dozen places for different things), ate a shared ice cream brownie cupfection, got a Lil Caesars pizza, which we ate half of on the way home, unloaded the car, made coffee, and I went to get another slice of pizza, but hubby had set it down on the counter, forgetting that we are currently having an ant problem, and they were enjoying the pizza half. It was the best one we had had from there in a while too. (grrrr!)
Friday hubby was ready for his BD trip, and he wanted to make a circle to one nearby town, maybe 20 miles away, to the Mennonites to buy some greens and honey. He was disappointed they only had one kind of greens so far, but he got some of those and a jar of honey, and we stopped by the Cane Creek market for fried peach pies and ate those on the way across to another town to get a strawberry poppy seed salad, which we love, and BBQ sandwiches. We ate one of the sandwiches on the way around to the next town, where we picked up the prescription we went after Thursday, and a couple of other things, and drove the long way home, where we made coffee, ate our salads, and took naps, both exhausted. We drove a very long circle, but we enjoyed it so much. So thankful we could!
Saturday we rested and pottered around, and Sunday we had company, as we do every Sunday, and I caught up on scanning the above sketches and ten stitch meditations into my computer, filing, posting, etc.
In between I kept up with my stitching and sketching except for one day. I just didn't have it in me that day!
Anyway, I didn't mean to write so much, or bore you with my week, but for some reason I just wanted to share. Today, so far, I'm catching up laundry, resting, and catching up blog posts! Hubby is pottering around outside with his cats and birds and going to the mailbox.
So, I'm going to stop on this post and get it published, tend to the washer and dryer, and write the next post with this week's stitchery! Plus, I still have to make the bed and do today's stitch meditation and sketch, and my physical therapy exercises. Yikes!
Thanks for visiting! Try to see the extraordinary in the ordinary and let's all practice gratitude!
Six more stitch meditations from this week! Haven't done one yet today, but I've got some scraps out and ready!
#40-recycled scraps and a piece of my old striped shirt with perle cotton thread
Only 60 more to go! Fun stuff! Fun to do, and fun to look at all the others in the FB group!
It's clouding up again, supper is almost ready, and I'm tired, so I will hopefully see you in the next post!
Thanks for visiting! Take care!
This week's sketches are a bit erratic. I guess I got a little lazy, but I still managed to get a sketch, or two, a day done, so, yay, me! :)
Day 30 (top two)-Stitch meditation #35 and a squiggly girl also escaped my head-Zig Writer marker
Day 31 (bottom two)-Stitch Meditation #36 plus a quick little neuroart tangle just for fun-Zig Writer and Tombow watercolor markers (pink)
The last two days of March!
Day 4-I've been trying to sketch at night while watching TV, which is distracting and accounts for the smaller simpler sketches, so this morning I went back to morning sketching.
I had a photo of a field of sheep that I made on our road trip out west in 2019, and this one was standing by the fence in sage grass near the road, backlit, so I made an attempt to sketch him. They had been shorn, so they looked a bit naked. Not great, but at least he resembles a sheep. I'm going to try more sheep tomorrow!
We've had another wild week of weather in middle TN. Tornados, flooding, severe storms everywhere, and we barely dodged a bullet where we live! And it's not over yet. More to come tonight and tomorrow. Scary stuff!
Take care and stay safe, and I'll try to do the same!
So I got lazy about finding stuff to sketch and started sketching my stitch meditations, except for the flower, which is from our living room rug.
I missed days 24, 25, 27, so three more days will be added onto the 100 days. I'm doing them a month at a time, so these are for March, and that's why they're numbered like they are. I've actually done 108 sketches since January 1 in 80 days, because I missed 8 days, which means that I still lack 28 days making it 100.
I have to admit that I'm getting a little burned out trying to do two 100 day challenges at the same time, but I'm going to try to stay with it. It has helped me a lot, and I'm nearing the finish line!
Short post, as it's been busy around here! I'm behind two days of sketching and stitching! These are the last four I've done though!
Days 19 and 20-The same mug as in the sketches post before in different positions and gel pen. These are the last three daily sketches scanned. Keeping up with one a day, so far!
Day 17: I sketched the mug on the right with a mechanical pencil.
Day 18: I sketched the mug on the left and the design on the handle, also with a mechanical pencil.
The two restaurant style mugs were given to my parents by my dad's sister, who worked on a small tow boat in town, when we went on it to visit one day when I was a child in the early fifties. They are thick heavy glass, white with dark green rings around the top and bottom and an upside down teardrop design on the handle. My parents drank their morning coffee out of them every day ever since I could remember, until they died. Now I have them, and they hold many good memories for me.
I set them up touching to represent my parents' closeness for fifty-five years, when my dad died in 2004 and my mom in 2017.
I am kind of journaling as I sketch items that are sentimental to me. I am a very nostalgic and sentimental person. That's a good thing for the memories, but a bad thing in that I don't want to let go of anything!
Anyway, I'm off to do today's sketch! Take care of you!
It's been kind of a wonky week, and I've had kind of a hard time keeping up with my sketches and stitches, but I managed! The worst of the storms went around us. So thankful! I hope those of you in the path are safe, and prayers for all of those hit by everything! It was a wild, and horrific for many, weekend.
#15-Last night I didn't feel like doing much of a sketch, so I moved the daffodil to the other side of the vase and sketched it, making it a double instead of a single!
We had to go out of town at the first of the week to take our income tax to be filed, which may, or may not, run into a problem this year. Fingers crossed it's ok!
Then a couple of days later, we had to go even further out of town to the Retina specialist for a follow up to my visit a month ago. Eyes dilated and tested again, which showed the bleeding had improved, so I got another shot in my eyeball, and he will check it again in three months. This time they gave me temporary sunglasses (they roll up) to wear home, which was really good because the sun was shining this time. My eyes bothered me after the visit for a while, but not like they did the first time. I could actually see the letters on the chart this time with my left eye. The last time I couldn't see the letters, just a big blur. Thankful!
And all the wild and horrific weather this weekend that has devastated so many in so many ways! Scary and nerve wracking!
So we took it easy between trips, we had company two days, a couple of stormy days, and it's already Sunday again, and our friend, who visits us every Sunday after church will be here shortly, so until next post, Take care and be safe and creative!
These are the sketches from March 7-10. I have one for #11, but don't have it scanned in yet, so I will share these for now. Haven't missed a day in March yet, but I go back to the retina specialist tomorrow for another shot in my eyeball, and it's a pretty long trip out of town, so it's according to how I feel afterwards as to whether I get a sketch or a med stitch done tomorrow. We'll see.
All of my daily sketches, except the first one, this year are in my Canson Mixed Media 7"x10" sketchbook.
Day 10: A glass coffee pot bank that one of my oldest friends gave me in 1974 when we moved into our new house, after living in a house trailer for four years. It was a matte medium yellow, at the time, with black knob and rings on top, black letters, and a black handle. It has sat on my kitchen window sill over the sink since she gave it to me all those years ago. Over time the paint started coming off, so I eventually scrubbed it all off down to the shiny white base, and I still love it. It has a hole in the bottom with a rubber stopper, which rotted out a long time ago, to get the money out. Incidentally, we are still friends, and she comes to visit every Sunday afternoon. 😊 Pencil, Zig Writer, which is about out of ink, and a calligraphy pen with India ink
Well, that's it for now. I'll post yesterday's sketch in the next grouping.
I didn't officially join the 100 Day Project Challenge, where you do something for 100 days, for this year, but so far I've only missed five days of sketching since January 1, and I've actually done 89 sketches, so I guess I qualify in a few more days. I'm going to add enough extra days onto the 100 to account for the five I missed, so that I will have actually sketched 100 days, and I will actually have over 100 sketches, because some days at the beginning I sketched two or three a day. Does that make sense? Anyway, it's quite an achievement for me, because I tend to get bored in the middle of projects and move on to something else!
We're having another beautiful spring like day today, and it's hard to stay inside. Hubby is enjoying it though!
I'm going to post my last batch of stitch meditations next, and I did yesterday's sketch in pencil, but didn't have time to go over it with my ink, so I'm trying to decide whether to leave it as is or ink it. Then I need to prepare for our trip tomorrow out of town, do my exercises, and do today's sketch and stitches. Never a dull minute here, but I'm grateful!
Take care, be well, and stay creative!
The last three days sketches for March! All are with my Zig Writer double ended marker.
I'm still trying to keep up a sketch a day, besides my stitch meditations, and postings. These are the first three sketches for March, even though I mistakenly wrote February on the first page. My eyes are very much needing a rest, so this post will be short, I think.
I did it! I did a sketch of some kind every single day of February! Perfectly imperfect, but still good practice, plus for the last six days I've done a stitch meditation each day in addition to my sketches. Yay, me!
Day 28: These mini bird houses were a Christmas gift from our niece many years ago for me to paint, but I don't like to paint wood stuff that much, so I never got around to painting them. They have been sitting in our bedroom all this time, so I've sketched them sitting atop a couple of books, and today I gave the little houses to one of my oldest and dearest friends, who loves to craft and paints everything. She was tickled to death with them and couldn't wait to paint them!
She is forever bringing us something to eat or something she's made, and I'm trying to get rid of some stuff, so I also gave her two old grapevine wreaths from my mom's funeral eight years ago that I was tired of (she wants to make an Easter wreath), some cotton fabric strips, a couple of rolls of ribbon, and a rabbit with vegetables soup tureen that a cousin gave me many years ago. The tureen had served its purpose here, and she decorates for Easter, so she loved it and has already put it to use in her home.
I felt a sense of accomplishment at a bit of decluttering, and I gave her a bit of joy for today, so it was a good day, and I'm thankful to have her in my life!
February has come and gone. Now to see if I can keep up the daily sketching and stitching during March! Wish me luck!
Doing something that makes me happy! It only takes a few minutes, some scraps and thread, and a pen and paper!
The sketches for the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. So far, so good!
