Found Words Poetry

It's been a long time since I wrote any found words poetry, although I really enjoy it. I have done them by cutting out words or phrases from magazines or books, but I also love to use my MP3 player music by jotting down random words that jump out at me while listening to my favorite songs. In this case, I did that while sitting in the car listening to an oldies radio station while hubby was in the grocery store.

The list on the left in my sketchbook marinated for some time. Then a few days ago I was again sitting in the car waiting on hubby, and the words started coming together for me, right page. The list forms the base words, which I add to, or take from, to form phrases and lines. I wound up with the poem below, which I like very much! Fun stuff!

SPINNING EMOTIONS

Sharon Prater-Pope

(Found Word Poetry 6-2024)

Walking through the dismembered days,

Beginning to understand the flaming truth

Beyond the ancient moon and stormy weather,

My heart breaks down memories with velvet gloves.

Foolish emotions go spinning,

And I hear lost voices and am afraid.

Then I feel magic eyes on me,

As true mercy falls upon my self worth,

And I reminisce,

Both crying and laughing in the lonely night.

The rain soothes my soul.

I stop the game and, once again,

Believe in lovely flowers, constellations, music, desire, and heaven.

I don't always really get the meaning of these poems when I write them, but later on, when I look back on them, I can see a reflection of what I was going through at the time and what I was feeling, which is pretty amazing.

If you'd like to read more of my found poetry, I have another blog called "Scribbles From Rabbit Hop" (see sidebar for link), which I haven't posted to in a long time, but it has quite a bit of my poetry and writing on it.

Blog Book for 2022

So, I jumped on the half price sale at blog2print, where I've had all my blog books made, got everything together and printed, and here it is! A record of everything creative that I've attempted, started, finished, and thought about for the year of 2022!

I used a photo of an intuitive acrylic abstract painting that I did a few weeks back for the front cover and a photo of myself at almost age two on the back.  I also used one of my found words poems that I wrote a few years ago on the dedication page, before the table of contents.

Between the covers are all the posts from January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022. I've included a couple of the inside pages that wouldn't lay flat on the scanner bed, but it gives you an idea. I wish I could afford the larger sized pictures, but these serve the purpose!

KEEP GOING
Sharon Prater-Pope
8-9-12

I know pain, confusion, and purple anger.

Sometimes, in dreams, truth, and reality
I bleed and feel crazy and lost.

The red violin plays with my soul,
As I say to trust myself,
Walk away from my way,
And ask God to help me.

Take time for running in strawberry fields.
Keep going.
Nothing is forever...

It's not a book of perfect work, but I love it! I now have a small library of these, and I love flipping through them. I am always surprised at how much I have accomplished creatively within the year when I see all of it collected together and held in my hands, and I can't help but feel a little bit proud, and a lot happy! I spent many happy, sometimes euphoric, soul filling, mentally challenging hours creating all of these imperfect works that are like my children, and I am so grateful that I was allowed and able to spend that time doing what I love.

Now, I have already started on the next book, and I look forward to another year of sharing my creativity in the form of writing, art, paper clay critters, and whatever else grabs my attention.

Thank you for visiting my blog! I appreciate it more than you know! I hope you enjoy your visit!

Mixed Media Pinkish Abstractish

Another mixed media, sort of abstract, piece in my journal for practice and experimentation.

The sentence in the middle is a line of a prayer that my mama printed off (her handwriting) and I made a copy of to use here. It says, "Oh, Lord, please forgive me, I pray, as I throw my self made halo away."

I may, or may not, be through with this one. I feel it's lacking something. I'm waiting for it to tell me what!

Update: I added some white gel pen and a bit more detail and lightened it up. I think I'm quitting on it now! :D

Altered Book Pages in Feather Journal

I finally finished these two pages in my altered book journal that I started last year!

The face was sketched off with only simple lines, then I started collaging over it with whatever scrap papers I could find around my work space, and I painted in the background with acrylic paint, I think. The figure was sketched in using a bamboo sketch tool, and the page was done in mixed media following the techniques of a teacher, but I'm sorry, I can't remember which one. It stayed like this for a while.

Then I added white gesso with a palette knife and some collage to the figure page, and left it almost a year.

I came back to it the other day, and added more collage papers to the face and hair, but didn't like the way it was looking. I also cut out the pink circles with a paper punch and collaged them onto the figure page to add interest.

Added acrylic paint and acrylic ink over the collaged face and some details and called her done. Her eyebrows say "Beautifully Imperfect".  I added some detail work with a black gel pen,  a stabilo pencil, and the pink circles to the figure page and also called it done.

They look much better in reality. Sorry about the photography! I like them!

Also, sorry about the underlining! I've had a heck of a time writing this post. Everytime I capitalized a letter the whole post, pictures and all, would disappear, then it happened every time I even started typing. I shut my blog down and re-opened it, which helped that part, but then it wouldn't stop underlining and the text kept changing color on me. I'm guessing that all those updates Windows 10 downloaded onto my laptop yesterday evening had something to do with it. :/

Anyway, maybe it will be straightened out when I write the next post. See you then! Keep creating! :)

Journal Pages with Found Poetry

Practice cutting and using my own stencils on a book page and other papers in a handmade journal! Plain prints with spray ink, using the cut out stencil as a mask and a cut out...

After some spray ink and pen work...

Close up of found poetry...

A couple more pages in the same journal, using my own stencils. The left side is a wrapping paper page. Don't remember what the other page is. I covered it in writing with a Pitt pen.

Not perfect pages, but they aren't meant to be! I'm feeding my soul with something I love!

Happy Creating!
