Mindful Stitch Meditation #8, consisting of cotton fabric scraps and DMC embroidery thread.
I cut a piece from a cotton cloth (I think it's a cotton flour sack cloth) that I had learned to dye with rusty objects on for a previous project, approximately 2 1/2" x 3 1/2", and thought I would try an iron on craft pellon for a backing to give it a little body. I had been using felt, but didn't really like it. I didn't use a backing on the last piece, which I wasn't happy with either. So, on this one and five more that I am putting together, I ironed on the pellon backing. I should have just tried one, because I don't like it much either.
Anyway, I only spent a couple of short meditative sessions on this one, but once the pale coral stitching was done, I hated the neat sharp edges, so I found a scrap from one of my discarded oxford cloth shirts and tore out a piece a little bigger than the rusty piece and tacked it down with pale bluish exes and french knots. Loving those frazzled edges now!
I left the left bottom corner, because, from the start, I kept seeing a bird with a stem running up behind it in the dark pattern. I tried to make the bird a face, but couldn't get it to look right, so left it as was and added the pale coral french knots to the stem. Once I added the bluish knots to the little dark spots, especially the bottom three, a face with hair emerged. Can you see her?
So the finished piece, with the frazzled piece, is probably around 3" x 4"-ish. I'm happy with it. It served its purpose, and has been added to the stack for a future project!
On to the next one!
