7th Stitch Meditation-Just Be

Mindful Stitch Meditation #7, which is kind of a hodge podge of fabrics from my scrap bag. Approximately 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", and the reddish threads are actually more red-orange than they appear here.

I'm still experimenting and didn't use a backing on this piece, but I wish I had. Even with all the layers, it's kind of flimsy and the edges curled up, partially from stitching too close to the edge, but I had fun and I like the finished piece, nonetheless.

The base fabric is kind of a thick piece of varied cream colored cotton, to which I added a couple of sort of taupe colored linen like scraps from a pair of old pants, a black thin cotton piece, a cream scrap of silk like fabric from  an old pajama top, an orangy-red scrap from an old blouse, a satin label from a pair of old pants that says, "Just Be", and the number 3, which has meaning for me, The whitish trim across the top was a tie from a stack of dish cloths. All the thread is DMC embroidery thread, except the ecru thread running around the outer edge. It is crochet cotton.

It took me about four short meditative sessions to finish this piece, and I loved every second of it! I am learning and trying new stitches as I go along from Pinterest. Some of my stitches take a very wonky turn, but that's the wonderfulness of this process. No rules, except can't take out any stitches, and it doesn't need to be perfect! Fits my wonky self perfectly! 😃

I have woefully neglected my drawing/painting for several weeks now and must get back to it to stay in practice, but I don't want to stop this practice either. I'll just have to figure out a way to work it all in, I guess.

At this point in my life, I don't care if what I do is called art or craft. As long as I can do what I enjoy, it doesn't matter. It helps my nerves and keeps me sane, and it's better than any therapist. Cheaper too!

Take care and keep learning and creating!
