Vintage Boudoir\Bed Doll

Let me preface this by saying that I have had a doll collection for years, and I love vintage dolls. I still have five of my dolls, my teddy bear, and a monkey from my childhood in the fifties, and at some point after I married, I just started adding to them. Many happy memories of mama and me going to flea markets on Saturdays looking for new finds! I just haven't posted anything about them in a long time, but I would like to share them with y'all, so watch for future posts! In the meantime, here's the latest addition to my doll family!

Look what came in the mail for me last week! A gift from a wonderful Facebook friend, Erin, in Texas (I'm in TN)! We met online through one of my cousins, who also lives in Texas, a few years ago, and we share a love of art and dolls. She sometimes shares pictures of her dolls, and one day she shared a beautiful boudoir/bed doll that she had just gotten. I commented that it was beautiful and that I loved the boudoir dolls, but they are too expensive to buy. She agreed. I've forgotten how she came by hers, but it was sure pretty!

A few weeks passed and Erin messaged me and asked for my address, thinking I lived in TX too. She said she had a gift she wanted to send me as a surprise, but she couldn't wait and told me it was a boudoir doll! When she found out I live in TN, she said she would have to save up for the postage.

Since she didn't show me a picture, I had no idea what the doll looked like or when she would arrive, so it was still a surprise. Flash forward a few weeks and she arrived last week!

Isn't she beautiful?!!! Erin said the doll came to her naked and she fashioned a "too big" dress down to size for her to wear temporarily. She said if I could sew that I might want to make her a new outfit, like a flapper from the roaring twenties or something, which I would love, but I also love the dress she's wearing! I do, however, have a pattern for boudoir doll clothing from when I made a cloth doll years ago, so it's a distinct possibility that she may get a new frock at some point.

The pictures don't do her, or the dress, justice. She is very old (I love vintage things!), her hair is actually a reddish burgundy color, which I love, her face nails, and shoes are hand painted, her head is composition, she is stuffed with straw it feels like, and she is 25" tall, including her hair.

I wonder how old she is, or how many lives she's lived, or where all she's been, and who with, during her lifetime. It would be fascinating to know her history!

Anyway, she's come to live with me for the time being via Erin, and I will treasure her for whatever time I have left and hope whoever comes after me will do the same! She has already made herself at home, is fitting into our home beautifully, and she tells us that her name is Maddie...

I hope you enjoyed my "new to me" doll story! Take care, and thank you for visiting!

PS: Sorry the pictures aren't better! I did edit them with my Microsoft photo program, but for some reason, it won't save what I do to make them better, so it's basically a waste of time to do it. :(
