Pencil Sketch Self Portrait-Original Photo

This photo of me and my furbaby, Kibbles, popped up on my Facebook memories the other day, and since it's one of my favorites and I needed something for sketching practice, I decided to try sketching us. Not a great likeness, but better than I expected.

I made the selfie the old fashioned way, a camera with a timer on a tripod! My mom made the lightweight patchwork quilt for us, and we wore it completely out. It was much loved! I didn't take time to fill in all the squares in the sketch.

Kibbles Marie died in July 1997, just before her 16th birthday in October, which happened to be on the same day as mine, and I still miss her every day.

The book I'm reading is actually Creative Pastels by Carole Katchen. I have several of her books from before Kindle and the internet, and they are all very good. I love her work! She happened to see the photo, which I shared on my facebook feed, thanked me for sharing her book and hoped Kibbles and I enjoyed it, and graciously offered to autograph them if I still have them. I do, but I had to give up my large studio, so they are packed away for now. I would have loved that though!

Original photo-I may try to paint this sometime! We'll see!

See ya next post! Thank you for visiting!
