Failed Pendent Attempt

So, I ordered the makings of some jewelry/ornaments a few months ago to make necklaces for Christmas gifts. I also already had some plastic dominoes that I planned to use.

However, I still haven't made any necklaces. Yet!

I did experiment a little with one of the pendent blanks and one of the dominoes (shared in an earlier post before Christmas). I had planned to hand paint the designs, and I still want to, but my muse is still hibernating, so I couldn't get myself motivated enough.

What I did do was cut a piece from a scrap piece of stamped canvas that I had cleaned my brushes on when I was working in my journal. I added a few marks and a word with gel pens and a felt marker after the painting was glued into the pendent tray with Diamond Glaze adhesive and dried. I let the pen marks dry, then sprayed with an acrylic sealer to keep them from smearing. When that dried, I applied a coat of Diamond Glaze over the top and laid it flat to dry.

Alas, when I checked it, it wasn't laying totally flat and the adhesive coat had moved slightly toward the lower end, creating a bit of a ripple as it dried. There was also a round hole in the glaze where I had touched it to get an air bubble out when it was first applied, and the glaze was rough around the edges, so I applied a second coat of glaze, found a flatter place, and let it dry overnight. I added more glaze just in the hole, but it's still not level. Below is the finished pendent, looking kind of blurred because of the glaze and the light.

It looks some better than the photo in reality, but I'm not real happy with it. I bought the glass domes (I can't think of what they're called right now) to use originally, but, for some reason, they sat even with the top of the tray instead of inside the edges, which didn't seem right, which is why I tried the Diamond Glaze finish, two coats. The black part is the top of an ink pad I used for a background. The tray is 1" x 2" metal, in a gunmetal color. I have three different chains that I could use with it, but I think I'm chalking it up to a learning experience and moving on.

It might wind up being an ornament on something instead of a pendent. In any case, it isn't wasted time or supplies, because I learned from it!

Update: I tried to make a bette
r photo, but I can't get it to photograph as clear and bright as it actually is because of the thickness of the glaze. I'm thinking it might work better on a printed paper than on an acrylic covered piece of canvas? We'll see!

Don't be afraid to play and experiment! Do something you love. It's good for your health, mentally and physically! Stay safe and well!
