A Few Pencil Face Sketches for Practice

Brushing up on face sketching, because it will get away from you! Regular writing pencils in a mixed media sketchbook, from my imagination. I am working on a few faces in ink and charcoal in my Wandering Muse Journal, but felt the need to use a pencil for a change. I need a LOT more practice!

I just discovered an awesome youtube series of programs through an artist that I follow on Instagram, Adele Sypesteyn, called Portrait Artist of the Year 2020. I also saw where there is one for landscapes that I want to watch. It's a British competition, where they have chosen professional artists and amateur artists, which they divide into groups of three, each group with a different celebrity model, and give them four hours to finish the portrait. The sitter then gets to choose which portrait he/she wants to keep, before the judges choose their winner, who goes on to compete in the finals. They also tell about each artist, show some of their work, and explain their processes. I've watched one show, so far, and can't wait to watch the rest of the season. The winner of this year will be paid #10,000 to paint a commisioned portrait of Niles Rogers, the singer/songwriter to hang in Albert Hall. It's a very interesting series! Even if you're not an artist, but enjoy art!
