Cotton batik scraps, crochet thread, raw stitches, buttons, and road trip memories make up this stitch meditation!
We saw so many amazing things on our trip, but I was really inspired by all of the yellow/golden fields and prairies/plains that stretched almost as far as I could see, and the gorgeous blue skies that seemed to melt into the far distant purple mountains. I was thinking about Oklahoma when I started this piece!
I took a few stitching and art supplies with me (see previous post), but had little time and energy to use them. I did start stitching on this one night, stitched more on another day, completing up to the blue, which I finished after a few days at home.
I forgot to take any pelon/backing with me, so this piece is stitched together freehand, and is not sewed onto a backing fabric for stabilizing. The two loops on the right were "happy accidents" that happened when my thread knotted. Because the #1 rule is not to remove any stitches, no matter how bad you may think they look, I left them alone. The large loop on the left I did on purpose to balance out the other two. And then, the piece told me it needed a yellow button to represent the sun that was beating down most of the time. The little blue button followed. And then it was done! I like it!
Another blue and yellow meditation is in progress. I started it yesterday, amidst sorting through the box of ephemera that I brought back by dates, sorting through, figuring out how to label, and editing almost 1000 photos made, trying to figure out how best to make a journal with writing, ephemera, and photos, besides doing life.
So much inspiration on the road, both from art and nature! My well is flowing over! 😊
Sometimes, a change of scenery is good for us!
