Hello! I am still trying, but now my health and a new medicine is affecting me, so I'm doing very little of anything except holding the recliner down. Not happy about it, but what can you do? It is a blessing to live to be old, but they don't tell you what it's really like to be old. I am still so blessed though, and I try hard not to forget it, especially in the difficult times.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I saw this cute kitty wearing a hat photo on Pinterest and used an Ebony pencil to sketch it. I've never been very good at drawing, and I am very rusty, but I think it turned out ok, especially since I haven't sketched that many cats. I don't think the cat was very pleased to be wearing a hat tied in a bow under it's chin. :)
A few days later I used the Ebony pencil in my sketchbook to do some layered hills and sky, more or less a meditation with pencil strokes. Pretty soothing...
The same day as the landscape sketch, I was watching TV and saw a woman with dimples and a long braid, so I attempted to sketch her. She actually favors the person, although I wasn't really trying for a likeness. I like her.
The sketch below, "Sisters", I just did today with the Ebony pencil, because it's the only one handy at the present time. I sketched it from a photo of my grandmother and her sisters that an older cousin shared on FB the other day. I love the photo! There are actually four sisters in the photo, but I didn't leave room in my sketchbook for the fourth one. The middle one isn't blind, nor does she have on sunglasses. That's just the way it scanned in.
Notice that two are in short sleeved cotton dresses, one with an apron, and the third one has on a sweater. I didn't try for a likeness, but the one with the sweater was my granny. She was always cold. She lived in a very shaded house, no air conditioner or fans, and in the hottest part of summer she usually had on a sweater. She was very thin and wiry. I miss her every day.
The photo I sketched from. Gr-Aunt Nancy is on the left. I only met her a few times when I was growing up. She lived in Oklahoma. Gr-Aunt Virgie (Jeno) next to her. I don't remember ever meeting her. She lived in Missouri, and was a very interesting woman from all accounts. I wish I could have met her. Next is my Granny, Laura Lue, whom I lived close too and was around a lot growing up. She helped raise me. Last is Gr-Aunt Annie Mae, who I also grew up around. She and their brother lived together after their parents died. Never married. I used to walk with Granny from her house to theirs to visit when I was growing up. They were always very sweet to me. I loved to sit on their front porch and listen to them and Granny talk. Good memories!
That's all I've got for today. It's extremely hot outside these days, so I'm mostly staying in and staying cool. I know it's a lot hotter where a lot of you are than in TN. I feel for you.
The black elephant ear bulb that I planted a couple of months back has come up and is growing, and the leaves are getting darker and darker. I am so tickled, and just hoping it survives this heat. We call him Pebo. :) The orphaned kitten, whose name has gone from Whiffet to Little Whiffet, to Buddy Jo, to JoJo, that hubby has been playing mama to for several weeks is also thriving and growing. She is beginning to mingle with the other cats/kittens now. I will try to get some pictures up soon.
The washing machine has stopped, so I better get the towels in the dryer. Take care, pay attention to the tiny miracles that cross your path every day, and be grateful for every breath.
Thank you for visiting! :)
