Meditative Watercolor "Stones"

Each year Ivy Newport graciously gives away 12 free classes, taken from online courses she offers, during the 12 days leading up to Christmas. So far, I have watched the videos and made a start on 4 of them. I picked out the ones I was most interested in, in case they get taken down before I get to all of them, as I'm still also working on the Time Traveler course.

This class is on watercolor and meditating while you allow different colors dropped wet into wet into circles, or rock shapes, to mix and dry, leaving their own patterns. I used Karetake watercolors, which are a bit opaque, and a bit too much water, I think. But it was a fun exercise!

The second practice was a bit better, but I still need more practice! It is kind of mesmerizing to do. Thank you to teacher, Stephanie Ryan, and the course is about Flowing Watercolors, or something similar, on Ivy Newport's website.

UPDATE: I went back and added some speckles to the second one to tie the stones together more!

These were both done on white mixed media paper in my sketchbook, and, of course, the paper buckled some, which didn't let the watercolor go flat, like it should have. I'm going to practice some more with different watercolors on actual watercolor paper, and maybe they'll come out better. I still like these though!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! Ours was good. We were blessed to be together with our niece, nephew, and their families once again, and Santa was very good to us! Very grateful for that!
