So, I tried this "free for a limited time" class on Tracy Verdugo's site (see side bar)-Kara Bullock's "She-Tribe" class from the course, "The Art of Sisterhood", mixed media in my small sketchbook with mixed media paper. I enjoyed it very much!
This is the original version, which consists of writing an original poem on the substrate, then covering it with a bit of collage, paint and/or ink marks, and then pulling out the women figures and enhancing them. Kara's video is much more detailed and interesting! I actually saw a couple more figures on the left of the page, but didn't want to pull them out, and since the area didn't look right without something else in it, I glued a flower image down and added some paint to it, which I totally hated, so I cropped it off to what you see below.
I still don't really love the background, but I do like the women and the composition. They look a bit like they are from three generations/centuries, but are all still connected to me. I find it kind of comforting.
The writing underneath (and which shows in places) is not really a poem, but it is original, and it says, "She didn't know where she was going, or why, or even who she was. All that she knew was that she was, and that was just fine with her."
Now to see what I can do with a larger piece!
Be safe and well, and keep playing and creating! 🎈💖
